I am looking for donations for our school. They do not have a playground for the children to play on. I am just wondering if anyone knows of any places or orginazations that will donate to such a cause or if there are certain people that would like to donate, how to find them? I am thinking the project will be around $20,000.00 I am not sure how to get started. Please help!!!

Do a web search of 'Project Playground'. You'll get a lot of hits on sites that have been involved with similar playground-building projects ( I listed some below.) Some were for city playgrounds, some school-associated. There are lots of great ideas for fundraising and volunteer recruiting. As for donations of materials, try your local hardware stores, Walmarts, etc. Don't overlook farm supply stores- they are a great resource for hard- to-find heavy-duty hardware.

That is a great deal of money. How about starting smaller? Add a little at a time? Is there some organization that you can build as you go?

Try churches, Kawanis club, Elks clubs, Synagogs, Junior Leagues. Look at some other charity and see who has donated to them? Some place may want to put a certain part of the playground in and then have a plaque with their name on it that it was donated by them. Let them do it. Let them have that fun. Have the kids have a ceremony for them and make a big cardboard card. Organizations love this. Getting an organization with elderly people involved with children helps bridge the generations.

20,000 is a big turn off. I would just look at helping. Look around at other prices and see how this can go up in parts and different organizations can be recognized for parts.

Certain Millitary Organizations are also very friendly to children. Ask the parents of your school for ideas as well. I do not know if this is some special religious school, but if it is that might come into play and involve those people that support that religion.

The citizens in my town had fundraisers, carnivals, etc... to raise money for a new playground at a local park. They even asked people to donate their saved up pennies. Some businesses donated some of the toys and got their name engraved on them. Some local carpenters donated their time to help build it. My favorite thing they did, was build a wall from cement blocks along one side of it. Individuals could purchase blocks for $50.00 each and place their handprints and name in each block. A lot of people did this for their kids or in memory of loved ones. They also did this around the bathrooms. It's fun to look and see if you recognize any names. It took a couple of years, but it's really nice and the kids love to go there to play or for birthday parties under one of the pavilions. It's called "Imagination Funstation."

Contact large corporations. Wal-Mart is big on community involvement. So are major communications companies. Contact your telephone company. Tell them of your cause, they might make a monetary contribution, or donate equipment. Ask anyone and everyone in your community to help. Hold fundraisers. You'd be surprised at how fast the money can come rolling in with a coordinated effort. Good luck.

It has been my experience that one of the best things to do is ask local businesses for donations. Also, get your local media involved so the word gets out about the school's needs. You can also try the link below that is for grants. Best of luck.

Call your local Target or Walmart and ask to fill out a grant. you write up a proposal for what you need and why, they have money put aside to help their own communities.
