Toyota ... I traded in a 1994 Corolla with over 300,000 miles on it and it still had the complete original exhaust system. The only things I had to replace with all that mileage other than regular maintenance things were the water pump, the battery and the alternator.

I would say Honda for ordinary people, it is a great car and practically runs forever, but if you can afford it, Mercedes, which I own, an E320, the Germans only buy cars every 10 to 15 years, that is why the cars cost so much because they last so long and retain their value. Hondas also retain value, either or would be a good choice. Happy car shopping!

Toyota Hilux (Tacoma) Diesel.

My vote for most reliable vehicle of all time period.

You know all of those video clips of militia fighters running around in pickups with machine guns in the bed? Yep.

They are the military transport of most of Africa and the Middle East, the roughest and most violent places on earth right now, for a good reason.

The BBC show Top Gear did a test on one involving crashing it, dropping it, flooding it with salt water, burning it, and imploding an apartment building with it on top, after all of which it ran with only a little tweaking, no new parts.

Usually todays cars are pretty reliable I think that yahoo news had a story a while back about the worlds most reliable cars and something like a GM or Ford standard sedan was the most reliable but I bet any car that is about 16 yrs old or less could last about 300k with little problems older cars with big V8's are very reliable once you get them running right but they aren't very good when it comes to mileage. Some foreign cars like Infiniti are really reliable but again any car can be as long and they aren't driven full throttle everyday at 120 mph.

Over the years, I've had experiences with just about all of them, but nowadays I'd have to say Toyota has the edge. It's the ONLY car I ever owned with absolutely NO defects whatsoever.

People will say toyota, honda, all that stuff. But GM just beat Honda, Toyota, Acura, and Nissan in the J.D. Powers reliability test. I'm neutral on the subject, but i think that speaks for itself.
