Plants need sunlight (or the right kind and amount of electric light) in order to make chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll absorbs energy from sunlight which a plant uses to make food.

Plants make their food through photosynthesis which require sun light, water and chlorophyll.Sun light is available at day time not at night. So plant donot make food at night.
But one thing which is very interesting if you provide certain wavelength of light which is require for photosynthesis at nigt the plant will start photosynthesis and make food.

I don't think so. They need sunlight to do that, if I remember right. A gardener once told me to only fertilize plants on sunny days otherwise the fertilizer will just sit in the ground or wash away in the rain.

yes, but more slowly, because they only get reflected sunlight. Some plants, like trees, actually become aerobic at night and breathe oxygen like us, so that they can continue to manufacture ATP throughout the night.

plants take in oxygen during the night.
the only way that they can make food is when light is present and they intake carbon dioxide. i guess it would work if you put a lamp over it..
