sola fidei / sola scriptura
Two of Luther's most basic principles for Christian Reformation was that the only way to salvation was "faith alone" (sola fidei) and the only source of authority and guidance is scriptures (sola scriptura).

I don't know what Bible you read, but I've read and studied the Bible for 50 years and I've never read the things you mention. The apostle John said in his Gospel, That if all of the things that Jesus said and did were all recorded, that all the books in the world would not be enough to contain them." But John never said that the other things were passed on by word.

Where did Jesus say that we should hold on to our traditions? I never saw that in any of the 4 Gospels. Jesus did confront and criticize the Pharisees for placing their traditions above the word of God (The Old Testament).

Sometime in the 4th century, an official council of the Catholic Christian Church, looked at all the writings that had been written about Jesus and about Jesus's teachings. They concluded that only certain writings contained no error. These were the writings that became the New Testament.

Now, please, don't get me wrong. I was raised a Protestant Christian and converted to become a Roman Catholic Christian in 1970. Although there are problems in the Catholic Church (as ther are in all of the Protestant denominations), I love the Catholic Church.

The people who broke away from the Catholic Church in the 1600's developed this concept of "Sola Scriptura" which Catholic apologists argue against. I think their arguments are bogus. The Bible is the most reliable information that we have about what God wants and what Jesus taught.

"Scripture alone" is a false tradition of men that was created in the 15th century, in an attempt to justify those who chose to break away from the one, true church.

If all the Traditions of the true church were properly understood and respected, in light of the sum total of all divine revelation, it would be clear to all that the splintering of Christianity was not something that God had ordained, at all.

The correct answer to perceived corruption in the church should have been the same one Peter gave to Christ, 1500 years earlier:

Joh 6:66 (6:67) After this, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him.
Joh 6:67 (6:68) Then Jesus said to the twelve: Will you also go away?
Joh 6:68 (6:69) And Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.

Which brings us to the equally false doctrine of justification by faith alone ... but that can wait for another question!

St. Paul said similar things. You're on the right track. The Bible is part of Christian Tradition, but there is more to it than just what is written in the Bible.
