How long does store bought eggs last after the sell by date?

no my carton of eggs say sell by... not best buy... thanks... also is there a way I can tell if they are good?

The first link is a nice chart on food safety, especially for leftovers: very helpful. According to that, eggs are good for 3-5 weeks. I would assume that your sell-by date is determined with that guideline in mind. I just bought eggs on 9/6 and they are good until 9/27: three weeks. Assume some time in shipping and that's dead center in middle of that guideline.

The second link is to a page with info on sell-by, and other date conventions used in the food industry.

Now, the membrane that holds the yolk together will degrade over time, so if you're going to separate the eggs, fresher is definitely better; but if you're just gonna scramble them, then I can't imagine it matters all that much.

Eggs should be safe in the 'fridge for up to six months. Give them a sniff test to be sure.

2 to 3 weeks after the date. They would probably be best in baking (eg. cookies, cakes) not actual eating for meals (eg. scrambled eggs, etc).

according to the usda; eggs kept at 40 degrees F.....3-5 weeks....done it many times....have had no problem

Do you mean the "best before" date? I say that the date is on there for a reason. I would toss them.

The answer is simple, only (4) days. After that you are taking a chance of getting sick.
