Anyone have conversations like this with their child?

For my son's birthday, he says "Mom, for my birthday, if any of my friend's Mom's ask, I would like Lego. BUT, not the MEGA blocks kind of lego, jus the lego with the proper lego logo on it. Also I would like books. But not just any kind of books, just books written by Roald Dahl. But be sure to tell them that I already have these 15 books (starts rattling off titles)"

Always makes me smile

PS, in the end, I told him. How about I tell them that you would really like some LEGO, or perhaps a gift certificate for the bookstore.

my son was diagnosed with aspergers when he was 4 (although i had my suspcions before that). He is 8 now and has only occasional espisodes of it but still have a degree of the enclypodic knowledge usually associated with this condition

i think that lego is a good thing to ask for because it doesnt matter if a present is duplicated - it can all get used one way or another

as to roald dahl you could encourage him to do some research as to what books he hasnt got and ask people for money as a present so he can track them down for himself (which can be part of the fun of collecting)

i found with my son it helped to try and keep him diverted so that he wasnt always focusing on his 'pet' topics all the time (just for limited times) which helps him as he gets older as he does see the need to do things not just because he wants to but because they need to be done or because his school teacher has asked him to etc.

Man, what is it with Asperger's and Legos? My little brother has been diagnosed with Asperger's, and he obsesses over Legos. More specifically, the Star Wars Lego sets. Oh he LOVES Star Wars too. He can name every bot, creature, world, character; you name it, he knows it. He's a little database of information, and he's quick to recall everything, as long as he managed to retain it in the first place.

Although my son is a little too young to be diagnosed w/Aspergers...it's been suggested since he displays many of the symptoms. It made me smile to read your question...my son is the same, but with trains-not legos. "I want the diesel engine...the one with the scooper on it...and maybe a red caboose to go with it....." Or...there's my all time favorite when we're driving down the road...to hear your four year old say "Look mommy, it's a quarry truck!"

My son may not have 'asperger's syndrome'...or he may. Either way...he's very special & unique to me...and I can relate to your little one's specific birthday requests!!

Everyday we have these kind of talks, legos & trains(thomas the tank engine) I like that he know what he wants. He told grandma he wanted new shoes but they had to be skechers blue and black with velcro straps (everyday is great) he makes me smile with his great stories about what he wants to do or grow up to be. Treasure everyday they are gifts from god! gift certificates are best so You guys can go pick the stuff out yourselves. Good Luck!!!

My little brother in law has asbergers. They can be so sweet. Get him a million Lego's, and tonz of books. I wish I would help.

Your son is great. My brother in law just throws fits to get what He wants. (sadly it works) But that is what happens when you have a special child.

Well, my son does not have Asperger's (as far as I know) but what you wrote sounds just like something he'd say. I could totally picture my son coming up to me and saying that.
