I was out with my "boyfriend" of over 6 years (we're 40 plus years old), he goes out without me also, but supposedly not seeing anyone else. The waitress came over quickly and asked him for his order, (he responded quickly without thinking) and ordered Tangueray Dry, then immediately changed his mind to his usual Vodka drink, his close friend who was also there laughed when he said that. I'm saying "when did you start drinking that, I never heard of it", He ignored me, but I never drank it, he never drank it, when I mentioned it later, I said what is it? have you ever had it? who drinks it?, all he said was, "it's Gin", ignored the rest of my questions. (If I persist when he doesn't want to answer, I'm asking for trouble, so did not ask). Does this mean anything?

It's not a foo-foo gender drink, anyone can drink it. It's just clear gin that tastes like pine.

Tanqueray is Gin. Dry is a way to describe how it tastes. Maybe he was wanting a Gin and Tonic or a Gin Martini but decided to stick with his usual Vodka drink. Another thing...gin is rarely if ever consumed by itself. It is usually mixed with Vermouth, Orange Juice, Tonic, Ginger Ale or Lemon juice.

it's Tanqueray with a "Q" and not a "G" .. :)

it's Gin, a pretty good one .. not as good as Bombay Sapphire (imho) but still pretty good. Gin is not a guy or girl drink .. it's an acquired taste .. lots of teenagers try it and get very drunk and sick and then never acquire the taste! Anyway, it doesn't taste like pine, it does have a hint of juniper, since juniper berries are used to make gin (as well as corainder). Whatever other nuances there are in flavour vary from distiller to distiller. Tanqueray has been in production since 1830, and as I said, is a pretty good Gin! don't stress it.

Nobody thats not a gin admirer or drinker can suddenly ask for a Tanqueray Dry just as an error, he does drink Gin once in a while.

Tanqueray Dry is a brand name for a gin. It's what people who really like gin drink.
