God uses everyones life in different ways. With no poor, there would be no rich. With no sick, there would be no health. See my point? God will test us all. Why is it that most ill or unwealthy Christians live more for God than healthy or wealthy people?
God uses everyones lives differently. Some as a warning sign to others. As a Christian, you have to accept this and have a talk with God and ask him for a sign to let you know everything will be alright.
Some of the strongest Christians I have ever met were Ill and/or unwealthy. They were also the most content people I have ever met. Only God really knows what is on the inside and in the hearts of others.
Come to me with a heavy burden and I will give you rest.

I have never had to experience the death of my child, but I have gone through other tragic experiences where Jesus really was the answer. I got strength and comfort from the Lord. I was able to heal in time and deal with my emotions. He gets me through the most difficult and trying situations.

In reading the other answers, I'm left with the impression we are supposed to turn to the person (?) responsible for murdering babies or other tragedies to be comforted?
What kind of sick ideology is that?
No wonder so many Christians expect to be rewarded for their misbehavior. They are just following the example set by their imaginary God.

Because earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. I would never make light of anyone's grief....but I do know there is one who can touch and heal even the most broken heart. That is, Jesus Christ.

I think you're kind of missing the point.
When people profess Jesus as "the answer," it's not the literal answer to all questions.
To use your example, suppose you child does indeed die a horrible death. Jesus did not cause your child's death; disease or recklessness or ignorance or whatever litany of causes caused your child to die.
Jesus enters the picture when we consider our RESPONSE to the child's death. Jesus was compassionate; so too must we (who are not the parents of this child) must act compassionately toward the family of the child. Jesus was active; we must act in accordance with our consciences regarding what is appropriate to say.
This is how Jesus is the answer. Jesus lived a very human life and those who followed him recorded what they remembered from that life. From this record, we can reconstruct Jesus' reactions to things: that's how Jesus is an answer.

It's a way of saying, I don't know and I can't think for myself so I'll just give the automatic response that the bible tells me to.

Yes it does make sense.
You just don't know the Bible.
1 Samuel 2:6 "The LORD killeth, and maketh alive:..."
Jesus killed your baby.

correction, Jesus is more like... the solace in your problems... like in your example, you'll get very depressed. So what a Christian would do is to pray about it, ask for inner peace so you can carry on without falling apart.
