If you or anyone is illegal, then it's regardless of whether your license is valid or not.... it's deportation time when the police get their hands on them. As they will check their details.
But if they are Legal then some international licenses will work.
According to a United Nations International Driving license policy... Depending on what country you are from.
This is a legit link that I put below for the UK by the AA driving association. you may find something similar from another country.
I had a UK international permit and it was valid in the US for 12 from the date I arrived. But after that you need to get a US driving permit. I didn't want all the hassle so I got the license in 2 months after taking the tests etc.
But for being illegal, it's basically a no no all the way down....

Your use of the term "illegal alien" is non-specific. What makes the person "illegal"? Or do you mean "illegal/undocumented immigrant"?
Because under federal law, anyone who is in the US who is not a citizen is an alien. Every visitor, ever ambassador, everyone one work visa, and ever resident alien.
And the use of international drivers license is independent of immigration status. So, you'd actually need to use the proper terms before your question can be answered.

A bunch ignorant people, yes you can drive with international driver license, need only a second ID, and can drive in USA with the MEXICAN DRIVER LICENSE when you are here like tourist or enter with labor permit or immigrant papers until you have you USA driver license, I feel so sorry because here is only hate and misinformation please read your laws and answer later.

Any thing that they do is illegal. You just stated that he/she is a illegal alien. That's asking if I were to go into Mexico and rob a bank, is that illegal. YES IT'S ILLEGAL
