My cat ALWAYS throws up her food. I don't know why. She isn't depriving herself of anything though (trust me, she's HUGE). She just always throws up. Someone told me that this might have something to do with an allergy to animal protein in most pet foods. Does anyone know anything specific about this?
She's a 5 or 6 year old calico (thrown up her entire life)

we've tried all sorts of different foods. she's had many check ups and the vets say she is healthy. I've mentioned the throwing up thing and the vets didn't really seem to think it was a big deal.

No one seems to have addressed the question of allergies which was in your question. Corn is a known allergen for cats and dogs and almost all commercial cat food is loaded with it. So you might start there -- Natural Balance has a chicken and brown rice, CA Natural is chicken and rice, Nature's Variety (Prairie) also has a chicken and rice. I recently did a bag of their raw meat concoction where the meat is put on the outside of the food!
Anyway if this reduces the vomiting you are on the right track and that may be as far as you need to go.
If vomiting is still a problem try Natural Balance's venison and pea so you can see if eliminating chicken is going to help.
I am sorry to say I think your vet is an a**hole. My brother died of esophageal cancer from his lifetime of acid reflux. Now that is recognised as a human problem. The constant regurgitation of acid from the stomach through the esophagus is a serious condition and your vet should have taken your concerns about this more seriously.
Click on my name at the icon. I give directions for switching cats from one dry food to another and it is important to follow this procedure.
My cats do not eat a lot of dry food and I always rotate the brands using about three of them so they are not eating the same food all the time.

Our cats threw up a few weeks ago. It rarely happens, and it's such a chore to clean up! Especially when they insist on vomitting on the carpet! What we found out was, we mixed some of the canned food in their food bowls when it was still filled with the other dry cat food. My husband mixed it well together, cause he wanted them to have something different once in a while. The cats loved it, but the problem was that they wanted to save some for later (could be overnite). Well, the food got moldy or something, so the cats had food poisoning. We had to clean up after them for a week before they recovered. If this is not a problem your cat is facing, I think you should try other cat food, or even, take your cat to the vet and explain to them. What we did for our cats was we let them out in the backyard for a day and let them chew on the grass. It helps them a lot and they got better faster.

You need to take her to the vet, sweetie. It could be something simple or not, but your cat can't possibly be getting all the nutrients it needs if she throws up so much. Have the vet run some tests and even give her an X ray to see if she has any blockage..
Good luck, and I hope your fur ball is okay soon.

She could be allergic to the food. Do you leave it out a long time so it's going bad .. or put out fresh food often? Do you wash the bowl?
Are there hairballs coming up .. or just food?
Does she chew on plants, wires, etc.?
She may be stressed out and wolfing down her food, fear of someone taking it from her or competition from another cat? Maybe just eats too much, too fast?
You need to see another vet if they weren't concerned about this!
Good Luck to you.

I wasn't getting my dog well from skin hotspots/allergies, whatever starting last Mar. I finally decided to try a holistic vet. Wow, what an improvement. I'm finding most people I know are switching and we are all so glad. It sounds like you have a cat who is a prime candidate for this. (Some of the things they say, cause me to try not to laugh---like, getting my pet's permission, and the reason why to feed natural diet of cow vs. chicken----cows are slow and calm and we need to calm your pets's nerves down, and chickens are very active.) But it's working so well!!!

We had this same problem with our cat... We discovered it's cause he's eating TOOO dang fast... So we started making sure there is always food in his bowl. The problem is solved for the most part. We occasionally find a pile after it ran out and we put more in... Just try making sure she has enough to ease her mind in the bowl and see if it helps. Don't let it get empty.

Have you tried different types of foods? Some types my sisters cat can't eat without throwing up or getting diarhea, but others she eats and is perfectly fine.

The domestic cat is well known for its tendency to vomit, particularly when attempting to dislodge hairballs from its throat or upper gastrointestinal tract. Chronic vomiting in cats may indicate underlying thyroid, liver or kidney dysfunction and should be investigated by a veterinarian.
Here a web page for your reading..maybe you can figure it out and find the cure here... http://www.fanciers.com/cat-faqs/medical-info.shtml

I have 2 cats that always had the same problem. My vet told me that it could be the water they drink. If your cat drinks tap water,it could have too many chemicals in it for her. That upsets their stomach and makes them throw up. Try giving her bottled water, like spring or distilled water. It worked for my cats!!

Buy sensitive stomach cat food, it really helped my cat. Give her a little at a time. I also heard that the dye in pet foods can be an irritant.
