Cod is a real fish.
C.O.D. also means cash on delivery, so a fish monger buying Cod for the catch of the day would pay cash on delivery.

Cod is a real fish. I recently purchased a frozen selection of cod from Meijer. It wasn't very good. If you are going to get fish at a resturaunt Cod is usually good. If you are going to purchase fish at a store, stick with fresh, and not packaged.

Yup, it's a real fish.
Sadly, it was overfished and the formerly lucrative cod fish industry is all but closed in Canadian waters by the government.
Hopefully, one day they will replenish themselves and the folks on the east coast can resume their careers and put some money back into the economy.

I know where this question came from. Cod is indeed a species of fish found in the north atlantic. You are thinking of "Scrod" which is not a species but is a name made up and applied to miscelaneous white fish of the day served in restaurants. You are not crazy afterall! Hope this helps
