It is never correct to say "different than." The word "than" implies a comparison; the word "different" implies a contrast. The words contradict themselves. This is one of the usage rules I teach my ninth graders.

Congratulations for realizing that "different from" is correct. Very few people seem to know how to use the phrase.

i've never heard of different than, from is the correct form.
