Other people dont understand the question. Its more like this....
"Whats the difference between Catholics and (Protestant) Christians?"

Catholics pray to Mary and the Saints even though Jesus said the only way to the Father is through Him. (Catholics also use priests as a link between God and man, therefor replacing Jesus' role.)

Catholics think that the bread and wine is the literal body and blood of Jesus Christ being sacrificed over and over again every week even though Jesus died ONCE so that all sins would be forgiven.

Catholics have statues of Mary, Joseph, Jesus, and the saints despite the second commandment saying that we shall not have any image of that which is in heaven or on earth.

Catholics deal with the last problem by leaving out that commandment and splitting the last one (thou shalt not covet) into two parts...thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife and thou shalt not covet thy neighbors possessions.

Catholics have added books to the Bible that were viewed as erroneous for hundreds of years.

There are more but those are a few.

Protestants are called Protestants because they are protesting the errors of the Catholic Church.

Catholicism and Christianity at the instant are not the comparable faith.maximum persons have an inclination to think of and say that they are the comparable.Catholicism isn't the branch of Christianity.it extremely is yet another faith. There are Christians,Roman Catholics, Independents, protestants, Orthodox and Anglicans.those are the 6 chief/significant 'religions' that worship the Christian God or Jesus Christ or the two.i don't be attentive to a lot approximately different religions I in basic terms be attentive to approximately Catholicism. So it is not hassle-free to point out the actual adjustments.

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are some minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

With love in Christ.

Catholicism is a type of Christianity, the type of Christianity against which the Protestant reformers revolted. Catholics differ from Protestants in that Catholics believe not olnly scripture to be inspired and source of revelation, but also that Christian tradition is another source of revelation.
Because of this two-fold source of revelation, Catholics incorporate into their religious ritual and tradition things Protestants do not. Religion statuary and icons, belief in the intercession of saints, and an hierarchical institutional structure headed by the bishop of Rome are a few instances.
Catholics tend to be maligned by Protestants as non-Christians and idol worshippers because many of these practices are not found in the Bible. This is misguided, because Catholics, like stated above, believe that revelation is mediated through tradition as well as scripture.

I speak as a sescondhand respondant (My AP teacher this year was raised Catholic). Yes, they both believe in Jesus and they both have churches. But Catholics are like the legalist sense of Protestants. They believe that you must have the sacraments and that the only way to ensure you salvation is if you go to Mass at least once a year. Once again, these things are what I heard from my AP Euro teacher.

Us Catholics up hold the authority of the first church started by St. Peter, who was hand selected by Jesus Himself to be the first priest of His church. St. Peter was a bishop of the first Christian church, followers of Christ, and later appointed highest position-Pope. Around 300 AD some men decided that they didn't want to follow the pope's teachings (which were Jesus' teachings) and branched off and started their own churches. To distinguish the church that St Peter started from others it was called the Roman Catholic Church, they lived in Rome at that time. Over the next centuries to today there are over 3000 denominations of Christianity, but some aren't true Christians in the since that they don't believe in the Holy Trinity or that Jesus was divine. The Roman Catholic Church is the only Christian religion that still follows the pope. The pope is selected by cardinals with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost, when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to the 12 disciples, they were transformed spiritually and was given the gift of tongues so that they could go out to all lands to preach the Good News of our Lord. Their teachings never changed because they were Jesus' words and the Holy Spirit, sent by Jesus, never let them to error as far as speaking Jesus' words.

If you are more interested in the Catholic Church you can read the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

WE DO NOT WORSHIP MARY OR THE SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We merely pray to them and ask them to pray for us to God. It's like me asking you to pray for me because I am going into surgery next week. Mary and the saints are in Heaven and are next to God, who better to ask to pray for us. They all can hear our prayers but ONLY God can answer our prayers.

there are many differences. catholics believe that you need to go to a priest for forgiveness of sins, like the Jews used to have to sacrifice animals for forgiveness. Christians go straight to God.

to be a Christian means to live the life of Christ. you make mistakes on the way, but you never stop trying to be like christ. catholics think that you can do whatever you want and it's OK, because you go and confess to a priest and say a few hail Marys and you're forgiven

the bible is very clear on idol worship. many catholics pray to Mary and the saints. God does not like this, Jesus said no man comes to the father but by me. even the virgin Mary could not get into heaven without accepting Christ as her savior

Benjo, Hello,
There is a huge difference between Christians and Catholic.

Christians are believers in the teachings of Jesus Christs. Christians walk each day in the Lord. Their walk with Christ is a reality to them. Its normal to wake up with God and to go to sleep in His arms. We have become children of God.

Catholics on the other hand, believe in a set of theologies that man has conceived.

They follow a man rather than Jesus Christ. They have rules and dogmas that they must follow. Not doing so gets them kicked out of the church.

They do not practice the Word of God but their own word. They put man before God and break the first commandment. The list is endless.><>

That is like asking what is the difference between baptists and christians, between presbyterians and christians, between pentecostals and christians. Catholics are christian. What distinguishes them from Protestant denominations is the belief in the hierarchy of the priesthood, the bishops, the cardinals, and the pope. Noncatholics do not recognize the religious authority of the pope, though they may highly regard his opinion. Catholics believe that the pope is specially guided by God to lead the church, and is infallible in church-related matters.

Catholics believe only the priest can talk or pray to God, church goers can pray to the Mother Mary. Catholics usually don't believe any kind of birth control is acceptable, Christians do Christians also believe anyone at anytime cam pray directly to God. Catholic priests have to remain celebit, Christian preachers can be married and have families. Catholics have Nuns, Christians don't.
