21 widescreen gateway hd monitor------the stand alone dvd player i bought from wal mart wont use the whole screen on the 21........when i use the laptop dvd player it fills up the whole screen of the 21

That's a good idea. But if that doesn't help maybe try right getting into the menu and see if you have any options for changing the Aspect Ratio. Mess around with that and it might just do the trick.

Yes, you probably need to go into the set up of your DVD player to let it know that you are playing the movie on a 16x9 TV. You will usually need to remove the movie from the player (or at least have the drawer open) before you can access this.

If it is set up correctly I would make sure that you are using component video cables and not a coax cable or an S-video cable. Usually with the newer and less expensive DVD players the component cables are not included. Just so you know, the component cables will have 3 connectors on each end and they pass only video (no audio) and can get extremely pricey.

It appears that the DVD player is not set up properly for your TV. You have to "tell" the DVD player that you have a widescreen TV. Go to the setup menu to find where to set the TV aspect ratio.

The wide screen movie are going to play wide no matter what tv you play it on you have to buy the full screen movies. When you buy them at the store you it should say at the top of the dvd weather it is wide screen or full screen. Hope this helps.

its been a while since ive done this, but i think you need to check the screens...resolution, or...simething like that (sorry it been a while). Also make sure your monitor is lined up right. usually you have controls on the side pannel to adjust the display...hope it helps sorry i can't remember the exact protocol
