I'm with smileycatwhiskers on this one. God does not rest. According to Jesus, both he and his father work (John 5: 17), even on the Sabbath day.
The word "sabbath" comes from a Babylonian root meaning "to stop." So when God was finished creating all he was going to create, he stopped.

It does make sense that He would have been setting an example, so that we would know the importance of taking a rest.
It's good for our bodies to rest one day a week, and God wants us to take care of our bodies.
Obviously He didn't need rest, but I can also imagine Him enjoying what He had created, and really a day was such a short time for God to rest, when He's there for all of eternity.

He looked around at what he created and probably thought, ok I am in big trouble now. I have created mankind, this will be my last day of rest for eternity. He is now proably talking to the Omnipotent psychiatrist.

He set us an example.
He gave us the gift of a day to rest.
Before the Ten Commandments, the ruling class made the rest of us work seven days a week 365 days a year.
With a day off, we got a day to contemplate our God and love our families and REST.
God bless you.

God does not become weary and does not require rest. If the creation took 6 days, and on the 7th day God rested, what happened on the 8th, 9th, 10th. . . . . . ?
To those who think that God requires rest, does that mean that for one day out of seven, no prayers are answered, no miracles performed, no souls created. . . . .

And on the seventh day God created X-Box and he saw that it was good and was pleased. God spake to all mankind saying "Keep Holy the Sabbath. On the last day of the week rest and relax unto the Lord your God."
This ties in with His eleventh Commandment "Thou shalt gameth and scoreth many points in the name of the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt."

He probably wondered why if he is omnipotent then why couldn't he do this.
And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
