Usually males need less time to use a restroom than females. And moms often don't like to send their male children into a men's restroom alone so why not create family restrooms out of some of the male restrooms in public places. A family restroom could be restricted to women with children of either gender. No men or boys would be permitted over a certain age, perhaps 12.

Maybe it's just me...but with your idea...that would mean some men wouldn't be able to use the restroom, that is if you converted their restroom into a family restroom. I don't have a problem taking my sons into the female restroom. I'll continue doing that until they are at an age they feel comfortable with, probably six, seven, or eight. I think family restrooms are a great idea. Why not have a male restroom, female restroom, and family restroom?

I don't think that is a very good idea. The point of a Family restroom is that it is for the WHOLE family. Not just for women and children. Men take their young daughter places all of the time without the mother. Do you think that the man should take his young daughter into the men's restroom and walk her past the men standing at the urinals peeing? I think someone might feel uncomfortable in the situation. And her certainly should send his Young daughter in the restroom alone. She might need help. The idea here is to just add a third restroom (Which most malls have available now, for the WHOLE family) not to eliminate a whole sex's restroom. That's a little ridiculous and unrealistic.

Anyone who doesn't want men in the restroom is free to take young kids into the ladies room instead of using the family restroom. The family restrooms are really for the dads! Where else is a dad going to take his little girl? Into the women's room or in with all the guys peeing in the urinal? That's a real problem for dads. We women can take our kids into the ladies room, where everything stays nice and private; dads don't have that luxury.

Anyway, usually there's a family restroom in addition to, rather than in place of, a mens or ladies room.

NO, NO,NO. A mother can always take her son into the restroom with her.
I am against having a Family restroom. I don't want to walk in and have men in the restroom I am needing to use. NOWAY!!!
If you want a change then why not want a bigger bathroom for women since they have there children with them.
I wouldn't call it a Family restroom because that is including MEN and you don't want men in the restroom.

What about us men who take our children places. I just say they need more family bathrooms. You know what it was like trying to deal with a 1 year girl old at a airport? O am just glad they started putting changing stations in the men's restrooms.

Most family restrooms I have seen are one large restroom that you can lock yourself into....not one with lots of stalls. There are no restrictions on who can use them. Instead, there is a regular toilet and sometimes there is also a child size toilet and/or a urinal along with a changing table and a sink. Some even have a couch for nursing or a couple of chairs. I like family restrooms. They are usually cleaner and I don't have to worry about where all my kids are if *I* need to pee.

There is a new shopping mall near my work, it has a ladies room, a mens room and a parents room.

Most new malls in Melbourne seem to be going this way. The parents rooms even have a place for breast feeding mothers and a microwave if they need to heat bottles.

Great to see the times they are a changing...
