Why do people naturally fart when they sit on the toilet but not when they first sit, say...at the dinner table or wherever?
**Of course people fart everywhere ...just a curious question

Mighty Mo is close to the right answer.
When you are squatting, you are straightening out the rectum and pehaps out of habit opening the anal sphincter. So with less effort and pressure, a fart will come out.
Where there are turds, there are farts.
Also--watch babies crawl around on their hands and knees; sometimes they will cock their pelvis in a manner that resembles upside-down squatting, and frequently they will fart (and sometimes laugh!).

This is a guess on my part and only a guess.
I would have to guess that because when people go to the restroom they are going there to do their business and the body (sphincter muscle, etc) is relaxed and therefore the fart.

maybe cause when you sit to take a poo, you have to poo really bad and you just so happen to be pushing and biting down on a towl and letting stuff out...and a fart will come out. The toilet is a comfortable place to relieve one's self.

So funny.While this is so true I'm not so sure of the answer but I think it is the position your cheeks are in when you are sitting on the toilet.
It makes it a little easier.Or maybe it is because you are releasing urine and allowing the gas to move on through.

Tell me about it.. I get soo embarrassed having to use a public restroom.. I don't always.. but I do fart.. I got in this BAD habit of taking my little girl into the stall with me.. so I can blame it on her!!!! hahahaha.. She finally asked me one day if that's what I was doing.. so she caught on..
just keepin it real.

I guess its because you have your pants down and sit in a squatting position therefore giving your sphincter a message.
