It's called curiosity. That's how babies learn about the world around them and think about it, what is the world around him besides you, food and diapers?
It's up to you to teach him that he shouldn't be playing with his or anybody else's poop. Until you get it across to him that it is something that shouldn't be touched because it is unhealthy then he has no reason not to.
Have you ever had to tell him not to touch something because it is hot? Have you tried to explain to him what "hot" is? Until he feels something that is really hot for the first time, he has no concept of what it means. Yeah, it's learning the hard way but sometimes it is the only way to learn and understand.
That's why God invented parents, for us to teach them.
Good luck.

Honestly, because he can. He is curious about what just came out of his body. My daughter did it. She brought it to me and said look mommy what my butt did. She was so proud. I just explained that it was nice but we always leave it the potty. Try giving him a simple explanation. He may also be ready to potty train too. Good Luck hope this helps

Have you ever thought that it's probably time to potty train him? Three years old is way to old to be in a diaper.

Because he is learning. He doesnt know its unexceptable. You have to let him know that playing with feces is a no no. He sounds like he is old enough to start potty training.
