I used ding! like the airline's thing to catch attention and the word "brotha" and my manager wrote me up because it is inappropriate? Is it really inappropriate? I really believe that it is not inappropriate. What is your opinion?

it's totally appropriate as it's part of relating to like minded people, I'd advise your manager to not infringe on your free speach rights, you also could have grounds for a lawsuit, don't waste time to contact a lawyer if he will represent you for free, and be willing to get paid only after you get paid

It really depends on your workplace and it's atmosphere. Since your manager wrote you up, it is inappropriate in your work. If it bothers you, you'll need to find another place to work where you fit in better. It really depends what your business is. If you have a lot of contact with the public, it can make your business look bad and people will stop coming-it's not professional.
