I assume I need to remove the color with Effasol or something like that, but I'm wondering if anyone has successfully gone from semi-permanent black to a soft, natural shade of dark blonde maybe with highlights added?

i've gone from permanent black to blonde! just buy a bleaching kit, or a really light blonde and leave it in for 20 mins more than it says to, then dye your hair the dark blonde.

I know of a few people that dyed their hair black and wanted to get rid of it,but they did not want to damage their hair, they are now dyeing their roots chocolate brown and cutting the black off slowly. It does not look bad, when you first look at them you don't even notice because it blends.Color remover can really damage your hair,What I suggested is an option you have,it's better then ruining your hair and later you can always lighten the brown or get high lights. Good luck

I have not personally done this. But I have read that you need to do this in several steps so as not to fry your hair. Recent examples of this would be Charlize Theron after she filmed Aeon Flux and Aslee Simpson's latest hair change from ebony to platinum. Seek professional help for something of this magnitude unless you are highly skilled.

I would remove all the color first and then wait at least a week before coloring to let your hair relax from the chemicals. Then you should be fine. I tried to cover over color and came out horrible....

I would go to a professional. If you attempt it yourself, you more than likely turn it green when you try to dye it blonde. And as far as stripping it and waiting a few weeks...........PASS, when you strip the color out it will turn an ugly copper color.

Go get it done by a professional. Your hair will thank you for it.

You need to see a hair dresser to get the black pigment out of your hair, don't do it yourself. They can control ot better, because they actually have to make you canary blond and then re-dye your hair the color you want. It's worth paying them for it.

No, but once I tried to dye my hair brown from platinum blonde and it went a murky green colour. It stayed that way for weeks because I never went to the hairdresser - dammit :)

if you try and do it yourself, you'll have orange and very damaged and even jelly hair. bite the bullet and go to the hairdresser. it will take hours and hours of removing colour and toning and so on. too many times ive had people come into my salon with orange jelly hair, cause they tried to do it themselves. IT'S NOT WORTH IT.

I would just leave it alone .Your going to end up with frizzy hair.Removing the color does alot of damage and it can mess things up if you want to do something else to it later

You definately need to go to a professional. It may seem like it costs alot of money, but doing it yourself will only end with you looking like ****, and your hair fried.
