I have thought about it and come to two conclusions. First off no one kind of education is best for all people, so the first determining factor would be the happiness of my child. Secondly, I know that it is a huge commitment that requires a lot of sacrifice, but the same could be said of having children in the first place. I do feel that parents are obligated to do the best they can for their child, so I would want to give them at least the option to homeschool.
I see a lot of non-homeschoolers posting answers in this category (homeschooling), and I just feel the need to lay some myths to rest. I was homeschooled all the way through to graduation and I had friends, a very busy social life and went to the prom twice (with two friends from different high schools). As far as not playing sports, I suggest you talk to Donni, a homeschooler from Washington who got to travel the world with a soccer team. I don’t believe my way is the only way, or the best, but please stop trying to shove us all in to a stereotype that fits few of the people in the community, and stop acting like there aren’t friendless public schooled kids who did not play sports or go to the dances.

wow those other answers left something to be desired.
Homeschooling is a personal decision made by the parents and the children if they are old enough. I was homeschooled for many years, as were my siblings. We had good experiences and bad, my brother I would say will homeschool, my sister wont, and I myself would like to for the early years if my husband would be agreeing to it, but he probably wont, this I already have accepted.
Homeschooling is right for some children, at some ages. Knowing your child well is the key to knowing if they would do well in a homeschooled setting, knowing yourself and how well you will be able to adjust to the commitment and responsibility that homeschool requires is something to consider.
Homeschooling can be something for the long term, or just for a year when your child is not doing well and needs that one on one attention.
I hope that gives you some insight, good luck with whatever you do decide.

I homeschooled from ninth grade on. I'm now a graduate student with a completely normal social life--actually, far more "normal" than a lot of people my age.
I can tell you this much...if ever I have children, they will not be in public school. Preferably, I'd like to homeschool them in the younger years, maybe up to seven or eight, and get all the basics down--phonics, reading, basic math. I love the philosophy of Montessori schools and will probably send them to one after that.
ETA: For the record, I was lucky enough to have a couple quite intelligent parents, and I personally am pretty self-motivated. I think self-motivation is very important in homeschooled students--especially when you get into middle school years and on.

"I don't believe in home school." Isn't it amazing that we can believe something so much with out entire being and yet that doesn't change the truth. I agree that homeschooling isn't for everyone, but that's no reason to negate the whole system. I agree to that I thank God that I have a choice of schooling in this country.
I myself have been down both roads and prefer, by far, homeschooling. I plan on homeschooling my children, Lord willing. The main reason is that it is my job as a parent to teach my children, this is the way God made things. Parents may choose to allow the government to teach their children, but it is their choice to give up this right. I also see a sad trend in public school that is destroying our society. But that's probably a separate issue.

I do homeschooling through a "Charter School" and I like it because I just turned 16 and I am going to graduate in January I got my 7.5 credits from this school in only two months compared to a public school it would take much longer, so when I have kids once they get old enough to decide for themselves if they want to get homeschooled or not they can make that decision but since I'm going to be an actress I will not let them go to public school. But that's just me.

Yes I will. BUT, I am tempted by the idea that schools abroad (specifically Sweden, germany Austria, etc) are very excellent. So maybe then I would do half and half. or, if there is such a thing, find a group homschool, where many families homeschool and we all collaborate.
I remeber being in school in Germany- the challenge and the pace was very high, and the academics were intense; so I feel confident in at least letting them into public school for a while for the positive experience, academically speaking, and, for the 'competition' factor present there.
I'm a hybrid myself, so maybe I'm biased... ;)

I was homeschooled for about seven years; went to both private and public schools the rest of the time.
I'll probably send my kids to school when they are young. School is fun for first and second graders!!
But when the going gets tougher, in late elementary or middle school, I plan on homeschooling them. I feel I can teach them much more at home than they can at a noisy public school!

no. i am homeschooled, and i really dislike it.
the education is better, sure, if your parents are smarter than you are and help you all of the time, like a teacher would. i am constantly having to e-mail everyone in my addressbook for help.
not to metnion that i have only been homeschooled the past two years, so i do have friends in the public school system, and it really sucks to be the only one not going to junior prom, or the only one that doesnt have a drivers license, or the only one who does not have a job, because there is no need if you arnt driving, you dont have insurance or anything to pay for, not to mention that you are never exactly welcome at parties anymore.
so i will never homeschool my children. even if they are kicked out of public school, then i will send them to an alternitive school, or to a private school, there is no way that i would homeschool my child(ren)

I was homeschooled all my life, and I would say YES!! I would homeschool my children. True, as a child I had my wishes...but now that I just graduated High School, I see much wisdom in homeschooling.
Those of you who say you don't get the education you need needs to think again, just cause ONE PERSON didn't finish high school...there are plenty of high school drop outs, for Petes sake, maybe your parents needs to turn him over their knee and give him an old fashioned spanking, or support him, parents who homeschool tend to know what their kids needs, its just some are to lazy to care...even school teachers

I'm 14 and will defiantly home school my kids someday.I'm so happy that my parents saw how messed up the public school system is and home schooled me,cause I'm not the coolest person ever,so if I were in public school,I would probably be picked all the time, and would probably not love history, reading and writing like I do.also I probably wouldn't have the great relationship with my parents like I have now.I hope that my kids will enjoy home schooling as much as I have.
