The IC indicates intercontinental -- thus very far.
For American and former Soviet missiles, the there is no practical maximum range. Both states produced missles that could hit any point on the globe from any other point on the globe.
This point arrives when a missle can travel half the distance around the planet, or about 12,500 miles.

If your thinking about a north Korean or Chinese or russian one then you need not worry. They say the range is about 6000 miles but in truth these fire crackers dont even work. Of the 2500 or so that the russians said that worked only about 12 would have ever left soviet air space in an all out nuke war. Same for the rest. The us however has proven ther cruise missles have a much better success rate, like 75%...now thats a threat.

the actual numbers are classified on some but suffice it to say we have the capability to hit anywhere in China ... and China will have this year or the next the capability to hit anywhere in the US as well as have a completed nuclear capable sub fleet by 2008.
