I have a 5 year old boy who goes to a private school. Last Friday he was punched on the face. He told us, not the school. We contacted the school they investigated and did not find anything. My son refused to point out the kid who did it.

Today when trying to convince my son to show the kids only to me found out that there are two other kids punch him everyday at school, older kids. I asked him what he did; he says he told the teacher. So I told him I am going to talk to his teacher about this, he reacted and said NOOOOOOOOOO.

I came to realize my son actually does not tell the teacher because he is scared. When I told him that he needs to tell them to stop and tell the teacher, he said the more he talks telling them to stop the more they hit him. He said they called him cry baby but he did not cry when they hit him. And he said he is scared to tell the teacher.

My son thinks these kids might even hurt me, so as you see he is frightened.

I am going to the school tomorrow, before anything I will make my son point out these kids. The moment he noticed I will talk to his teacher he started to say no mom promise you won't talk or I won't show you the kids. He is only 5. My heart hurts seeing him scared from two idiots. I am starting to if this thing was happening last year. If it was I would never forgive myself for not realizing.

We have been having self-esteem problems for a while. Now it all makes sense. Help me somehow. What should I do?

I am pretty sure the school will take matters to their hand. they are really good. The principal actually sugested that there might be a bully picking on im. I am very concern about the emotional affects on my son. i am pretty sure we will find a way to stop this working together with the school. What should I son? How should I explain him why this is happening to him? And hw he should react? I am very worried about permanent damage to his self-esteem.

See my son goes to Karate. I finally told him that he should hit back. He said no, than he would get in trouble and he is scared.

I have had this problem with my son (and I am also a teacher).
Talk to the principal. Explain your sons intense fear. This is an AWFUL way for him to start his school career!
Ask the principal to talk to the boys but maybe say "A teacher saw you hitting this boy." This way they do not know that your son told.
My son was kicked so hard in the privates that he was bruised. He was humiliated. The principal actually suggested the scenario above. It worked and the other boy has left my son alone since.
You are paying a lot of money for your child to go to this school. If they do not help you I would ask your son if he would like to go to the public school. Or better yet; tell your son that NO ONE is allowed to treat him like this. You want him to be safe and because the school will not help then YOU are taking charge and sending him to a school that you think will protect him.

Do you trust any of the teachers, or maybe even an older student? Ask them to keep an eye out without being too obvious. If he is brave anough to take the bullying because he thinks he's protecting you, then he is quite a brave boy.

Had this same type problem with my daughter, kids beating up on her when teacher wasn't looking. Teachers refused to believe because they didn't see and the bullies obviously said they didn't do it. taught my kid to kick fight. Problem solved. Teachers did not approve of my solution, but they had no "non violent" cure. Bullies only pick on people who don't fight back. Send your kid to karate class. Kick a bully where it hurts and he stops.

Hmmm... If you know the timeframe that he gets bullied you might be able to get some video tape of it and take it to the principal.. and to the parents of the children who do the bullying.

schools are powerless to do anything, and their parents are most probably jokes who let them do what they want. it's a horrible situation to be in because on one hand i'd advise removing your son from the school, but that's giving in and not solving the problem. the other half of me wants to tell you to put your son in boxing lessons, aikido lessons and kickboxing lessons and let him make sure they never bully him or another kid again!
