I just saw this really disturbing commercial about this movie. Okay, I'm an atheist and I respect all religions, but this was just sick. It was this move called "Jesus Camp" and their were these drones talking about a really alive church and raising their hands and crying and screaming. HOLY CRAP! What have they done to these poor kids? I seriously thought it was a joke when it came on but then it said it was PG13 and coming to a theater???!!! Has anyone else heard about this? What is this country coming to?

LL, for your information, I was a "born again" christian until I was 17 years old. Then I woke up and realized there was this thing called "life" that I needed to live. I'm happier now than I ever have been.

I just saw that comercial. I was on answers, so I looked on here to see if anyone was talking about it. I saw a little girl talking about "dead" churches and that people should be yealling in church. I saw a little boy talking about non christians and how it feels to meet them. About how candy and meat. Then a person talking to a large group of children about religion and tears streaming down the eyes of a child. I am Catholic. I found this disturbing. What are these radical people doing to chidren? Is this yet another thing to make children grow up too fast and burnden them with worries of an adult world? To me this is just as bad as them having sex to early. Children should just be kids and have time to be free to grow innocent and have fun. We have plenty of time to live in a culture of fear and complexities.

Disturbing is a really good way to put it. I respect all religions too and no religions. Be an athesist or an agnostic. We do need to protect children.

Here is a link to the trailer I found. After watching the trailer I see where this is coming from and why this is dangerous.

I started a link on my side about this and added more details. If you would like to look at it Queen I would invite you.

It is the most disturbing thing i have seen since..well since i went to a church. I hope this movie wakes people up to the child abuse these kids are going through. People have got to stop doing this to children. Seriously! for the sake of humanity never tell a child about the doctrine of hell.

"Any system of religion that has anything in it that shocks the mind of a child, cannot be true." [Thomas Paine, "The Age of Reason"]

"To succeed the theologian invades the cradle. In the minds of innocents they plant the seeds of superstition. Save children from the pollution of this horror." [Robert Ingersoll]

"That is a protestant baby. This is a Hindu baby. That is a Muslim baby. This baby thinks there are many gods. That baby is adamant that there is only one. But it is preposterous that we do this to children. They are too young to know what they think. To slap a label on a child at birth - to announce, in advance, as a matter of hereditary presumption if not determinate certainty, an infant's opinions on the cosmos and creation, on life and afterlives, on sexual ethics, abortion and euthanasia - is a form of mental child abuse." [Richard Dawkins]

I agree completely. It is scary what people do with their children. I do not believe in any God in any way, shape, or form, but I do believe people have a right to believe whatever religion they choose. I was brought up is a Roman Catholic family and went to church every Sunday until I was about 15. I think I am better for having had the experience, but what I saw in the trailer looks damaging. It is one thing to teach your child your family’s beliefs but it is completely different to brainwash them. At this camp and in their homes they only learn one thing which will hinder, not help, them when they are adults.

I was fortunate enough to be sent to a private school from K-8 which made a point to teach diversity. There I was exposed to many world religious views, and it helped me not only make up my mind, but also be educated and accepting of other's religious views. These kids and their parents don't comprehend that when their kids grow up they will be released into a world that doesn't care what they think and all their "Jesus rhetoric" won't help them. When they get into the real world they will realize that God won't be there for them when they loose a job, make mistakes, or get hurt. The general manager at Taco Bell doesn’t care where you need to be all Sunday. He only cares that you are at work.

It is not healthy to do this to kids. It is a sign of fear. This is being done because the Christian Right is scared that when they are old nobody will carry on their cause. Who will be around to persecute gays, deny birth control, take away a woman's right to make decisions about her own body, or hinder important medical advances like stem cell research? Train the children to do exactly what you want. Who else did that...can't think of his name...German maybe...that’s it! Hitler did that with children. I hate comparing people to Hitler. I think it takes credibility away from my argument, but in this case it is true. Hitler had children taught what he wanted and nothing else and in that way promoted his ideas. On a side note I think some very religious people have the potential to be as evil as Hitler.

Is it so wrong to expose kids to more than Jesus? These kids will be missing out on a lot of things that normal kids will experience and the reason why is because Jesus said it was bad. Who doesn't remember a particularly exciting game of truth or dare? I do, and most people I know do. I would take that over giving my life to God any day. Who never had a weekend (or week) that could be explained in the Jimmy Buffett songs "Margaretville" and "Why Don't We Get Drunk and..." and didn’t entirely regret it? Again I and most people I know have had this experience and are (at least) somewhat are happy we did. It’s reckless, irresponsible and part of growing up. I hope my kids have this experience as well. They will be told not to, but they will.

I disagree with any establishment that uses guilt and fear to control people. The Catholic Church has a lot of things wrong with it presently and has a bad history (Crusades just to mention one) but overall is not a bad organization. The "Christian Right" and the evangelical sects are however a true threat to not only the United States but free thought. I don't want to only say bad things about Christians because there are sects of Judaism, and more in the media, Islam especially, that are the same way. The Christian Right is no different than extremist Islam. They are a threat to national security

No matter how much faith someone has I bet they still look both ways when they cross the street or the train tracks. These people need to start doing what they preach. Ignore the warnings at the train tracks and walk out into traffic. Jesus will protect you…I promise!

I haven't heard of it, but just reading your question makes me want to see it. It can be scary if you're seeing the Spirit move among people for the first time, or if you don't understand what's happening. I personally think it's wonderful. I'm going to look it up now. : )
EDIT:
A minute ago I finally looked at more details about the movie, and I admit it DOES sound pretty bad. I was thinking it was just a movie about a kids going to a Pentecostal church camp. Apparently it's like a drill-sergeant-breathing-down- your-neck-to-praise- Jesus-louder kind of thing. If that's the case, no I can't approve of a thing like that. Faith and being Spirit-filled is a personal thing and they're clearly abusing the name of Jesus (and abusing the children too is my guess.) And just think at the bad publicity this will give Christianity in general. : (

I haven't heard a single word about it until now. Sounds wierd. Not to shock you, though, there are probably a lot worse movies out there! "The Blair Witch Project" really sucked, and it didn't even have a witch in it!

DOOM ---bleah
Friday the 13th (all of them)---bleah
When Harry Met Sally---yawn
Jaws 3 (this one in particular)---yuck

The list could go on and on and on...

If you're ever in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, take a trip to Rhema Bible College. You'll see this stuff IN REAL LIFE!
(And yes, it's scary.)
