Depends on whether you go by the Bible description or that of many churches. The Bible says that Holy Spirit (renamed by churches as Holy Ghost) is God's active force which is the power that he uses to create, to cause things to happen and to reveal himself to mankind. Under special circumstances he has caused Holy Spirit to dwell in some humans in order for them to be able to do healings, resurrect the dead, etc. Most humans can ask for Holy Spirit to be able to understand the scriptures and as long as their motive is getting to know God and his purposes and not to exploit other humans, they will most likely get a portion of it. Holy Spirit is not part of a trinity and is not a person, spirit or otherwise. This, again, is a false teaching by some humans.

Both the Old Testament and the New Testament refer to God's Spirit, or the Holy Spirit, to represent God's active presence and power. Also Jesus in the Gospel of John (e.g., Joh 14:15-16:15) and Paul in Romans (Rom 8:26-29) both refer to the Holy Spirit as an advocate or defense attorney on our behalf, as the Spirit of truth, as an intercessor. This presence and power of God represents the mind of God. It is not another person with a mind of its own.

It is the Spirit of God that does the work in you after you have trusted that the Lord Jesus Christ died for you. The Spirit baptized you into the body of Christ after you believed. 1 Corinthians 12: 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, The Spirit seals you unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4: 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. The Spirit cut the body loose from the soul. Colossians 2: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: The Spirit dwell within you and you become the temple of God. 1 Corinthians 3: 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

The term trinity is not biblical
The proper Biblical term is the Godhead.
Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are called the Godhead. They are unified in purpose. Each has an important assignment in the plan of salvation. Our Heavenly Father is our Father and ruler. Jesus Christ is our Savior. The Holy Ghost is the revealer and testifier of all truth.

In Acts 2:38 Paul (I believe) preached, "repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ and you shall recieve the Gift of the Holy Ghost." (Not sure exact word for word.)
It's the spirit of God, and God's promise to us.
JOHN 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

the holy spirit is the active force of God, a part of God himself not a separate person (that's why the Bible calls it the finger of God-Luk 11:20). It is not a Trinity (meaning a separate person that comprises God). It is the Spirit OF God, God is the spirit not a separate person. 2 Cor 3:17

The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of God!
The Holy Spirit of God is what formed the earth! The Spirit of God is what breathed life into Adam. The Spirit of God is what overshadowed Mary and she became pregnant with Jesus! The Spirit of God is what Jesus promised His followers that He would send them when He went to the Father! The Holy Spirit of God is what indwells every believer!
