You should check with your doctor first to see what you can still do safely - my guess would be to not focus on aerobic activities. Maybe you could use less weight and do more reps - work on your muscle elasticity and tone instead of building it, for example.

this is really the answer from your family doctor to answer. and there is nobody better than yourself to know when your over doing it. But I would start out slow, what ever the exercise is, and gradually pace yourself to where you feel tired. I have athsma, and high blood pressure, and i work out 2-4 times a week. don't forget to cut down on the snacks too, or your going to cheat yourself.

Forget the gym. Yoga or swimming would be a better choice as these expand your lung capacity gently and you can pace yourself. Start slow and you will be amazed how well you progress.
