If you think it is restricted to this country, you're deluded. Travel abroad and see the havoc that american christian money has wreaked on humanity. Burn the bible and save all living creatures!

Yes, I have thoughts about this, quite a few of them. But to be brief, I feel that what I call the Religious Wrong has become a fanatic's club with one mission statement: Turn a democratic republic into a theocracy. I do separate them from Christians who understand the difference between their faith and the secular laws of this country. The RW was used shamelessly by Bush and his cronies in the last election and most of them still don't realize it. One example is the amendment adding discrimination to our Constitution. Bush knew and he's always known that was never going to happen. He knew that too many, including Republicans, saw this for exactly what it was and didn't want their record to show a yea vote for such a disgrace as this ridiculous amendment. But use it to woo the RW he did, and it worked wonderfully.
I do feel sorry for the Christians who are getting a bad name because fundamentalists have hijacked the faith into a crusade for moralistic oppression.

I'm inclined to agree with the proposition; what was once, perhaps, a civilizing influence on American politics has become the excuse for venting what is most oppressive and vile. The concepts of freedom and honor under minimal law once espoused by the Conservative wing of either major party has been replaced by ever-tightening rings of 'security' and growing paranoia under a burgeoning domestic espionage system. Back in the day, Americans feared Godless Socialism; today Americans fear "Spirit-filled" Fascism.
Isn't this the kind of thing you and my parents fought to weed out half a century and more ago?

Honestly, as a nonamerican, brought up in a country with no state religion, I am inclined to disagree with that.
Its not their influence on politics that give it a bad name, its a few right wing politicians hiding behind their religion as an excuse that has given American christians and America in general a bad name.
You can't just blame a whole group of people. You can blame specific ones.
Although a few biblethumping zealots do give the rest of them a bad name. *eyes around the rest of answers R&S*

Living north of the 49th, I can also tell you it's given Christianity a bad name up here too.
Your Founders made the right decision when they enshrined in your Constitution the separation of church and state. That gave your democracy a great deal of strength. Now that is being eroded by Bush Jr. The impact of his actions are far greater than slimming the Christian faith. He's creating a theocracy which by its very nature is at war with the Muslim world. Dangerous and incredibly stupid.

I don't think so. I'm not sure Christianty has a bad name, if anything it's the ones who say they are Christians and are not.
Some people hate Christians because they hate Christ.

The Kingdom is NO part of this world. What is it that the leaders in the church can not understand about the word NOOOOOOOOOOOO Part of the world....But they say how can we effect change if we don't vote...LOL
I had to vote ONCE in my life and that was Final. I vote for Jesus rulership and trust he can handle any and all opponents since the power and glory has been given to him. THE nukes will be like wet match sticks when he fights for us at Armageddon...amen Since they can't see him how will they fight him? Men want power and glory that only belongs to God. How many times did they shift alligence during world war 2. They deny Jesus and voted for men then and now...see ya would want to be ya!

It appears to non Christians that they are totally trying to take over the country and use it to run their own agenda. This confuses me because I'm married to a Jehovah's Witness, and he says that true Christians are not supposed to be involved in politics anyway. The JWs won't hold office, or even vote. So according to them, politicians claiming to be Christians are going against biblical teachings.

I am a devout Christian and I love the Lord with all my heart. Much to our shame Christians are what have given Christianity a bad name in this country. We will always be judged by our worst examples, and people will very soon stop listening to what we have to say, however they will never stop watching us.

I do not think many people in this country understand Christianity. They are all doing their own feel good things and calling it their own personal morality. Yet, the live in sin, they fornicate, they commit adultery, they lie like breathing, they cheat on their taxes, on their payments, etc, they will fight in their homes in front of their children and say they are lovers of PEACE. They will parade themselves in clothes which do not even remotely cover their body. They will turn their back on the aging parents and chuck them into the home, abort their own babies, drink like an alcholic, and curse like a sailor...and they want to be called CHRISTIANS...then they take the beloved Word of God and twist it to say whatever they want it to say to help THEM and never EVER want to be called on the carpet for SIN.
I do not see many CHRISTIANS in this world. This is not the influence I want on politics in America. How about YOU? Remember our dear Christian president Clinton???? He represented many people's ideas of HOW they practice their Christian traits.
Until WE learn to behave and act like CHRIST, we are not CHRISTians.

Why is Christianity always the right??? Did you ever think that some people who do not follow politics or want to go either right or left can be christians too? Or does a political statement always have to follow christianity???
