Yes. This is a very difficult situation for any parent to face.

My daughter was nearing her 8th birthday when all sorts of physical problems began happening to her. I took her to many doctors but no one could tell me what was wrong with her. Then, totally frustrated, I told my husband that I was taking her to The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, first thing Monday morning, and that I would not leave until someone told me what was wrong.

It took three weeks to get a definitive diagnosis. She had Juvenile Dermatomyositis. JDMS for short. A one in a million arthritic disease that is potentially fatal. Worse, if the treatment isn't effective, your child could end up in a wheelchair for life.

It was the most horrific time of my life. I can't tell you the number of tears that I cried. But thankfully, she pulled through and today she is a healthy 21 year old young woman.

I know what it's like for a parent to face death. I faced that distinct possibility with my daughter. My only advice would be, hold on to anything that can help support you through these trying times. If it's your personal faith, great. Friends and family, wonderful. But don't let it stop you from moving forward with your life. And don't be afraid to ask for help!!!

I haven't lost a child but my sister has. He was 18 and he was killed in a car accident. It was the most horrible experience that I have ever been through. Also we didn't know it until after the funeral but my sister was pregnant. She now has a beautiful 2 year old daughter who looks just like her brother did. All you can do is get through one day at a time and you will survive.
This Friday September 15th he would have been 21 years old.
Wish your friend my best.

I'm sorry for your friend's loss. My grandpa had a friend who lost his daughter and he wrote a book about the expeerience called "Too Precious to Die." I'm sorry I don't know his name, but maybe that book - if it's still in print - would be helpful.

Blessings to you.
