On a visa there is a number, as well as a visa flash number. The visa number appears below the words "Control Number" and the flash number is usually red, and it's in the lower right quadrant. If you are filling out a 485, the control number is what they want. Why isn't there someone there to help you out with that stuff? The I-94 number isn't the same as the visa number, but they will need it. Best to photocopy both the NIV page in the passport and the I-94 and attach those to the 485 when you submit it. And you seriously need both of those documents when you get your interview. Hope that helped.

I not really sure on this, but, I not think the number is on your Passport. It would be on the Visa of the country your entering. Passport gets you back into your Country. Visa gets you into the other country. True, some just recognize your country's Passport. Depends on the Political Relations. Now, I may be wrong, but, this just an opinion.

Non-immigrant visa numbers are not in a passport. They are on the I-94 that is issued when the person enters the country.

Markus is right, except that the red number is the "foil" number. Control numbers are not unique, but foil numbers are; there will always only be one US visa with that foil number.

i do no longer think of you may bypass everywhere without your passport. A photocopy won't do it. that's why passports are confiscated with the help of the police or the courts whilst they do no longer choose somebody to leave the country.
