i have a few of them. and i know how frustrating it can be. bloody hypocrites! laugh and give it back to them. some people just do it. they suffer from low self esteem and want to inflict pain on others to feel better. so next time any thing happens just smile and ignore

Just try to keep your distance. Is it their personality traits or are you just incompatible? You say "toxic". That sounds pretty bad. And I don't know what you mean by "close". But, if it's a sibling and you are an adult then just keep away from them. If it's a spouse then... that's another question.

Relationships like this don't need to be either fully on or fully off. They can be somewhere in the middle, where you are polite and reasonably friendly, but not necessarily intimately involved in each other's lives. You need to find this middle ground, instead of swinging from one extreme to the other.

I don't
Being it's family, and they know me best, they understand if I don't want to deal with them. If I'm asked about it, since it is family, I simply tell them like it is! That's what family does, they are the people who understand us the best and who will still be our family after the most radical of arguments! Right? Right!

Unless you need to be around someone like this, simply do not associate with them. If you must do so at work, remain civil, do your job, you need not be their friend, just a co-worker.

There are some people who will just never change. Communicate with them only through e-mail or regular mail if you can.

I have one! I try to stay away from that person. I give general answers to any questions. And don't give out any information either.

If they are harmful emotionally, physically or mentally then i cut them out of my life. Just because there is a blood tie does not mean you have to have contact with them.

I limit my contact with them. I think that you can let them know your there but I would not always want to be around them b/c its not healthy for you.
