My 1 year old cat except a 3 month old kitten. My cat keeps hissing but I know she will not harm the new kitten. Both are females. My other cat is fixed. I took this kitten home with me after my friend threw the kitten back outside where she had found it after she found had no money to declaw her. I was going to take it to the local shelter tonite but they closed before I could reach there. Any suggestions or advice? My husband is not sure if he wants to keep her because we already have a Pom Dog as well. My Pets are very spoiled and one more would be a pleasure but in order to convience my husband I have to make sure they get along TONITE!!!! She has already used the litter box and ate. She is playing around all by herself. WHAT CAN I DO TO BRING THEM TOGETHER TONITE? Catnip, toys, food, etc HELP

it's probably not going to happen overnight. try to convince him to give you some time. it may take a week or so, but they will get along eventually. it's something you just can't push.

I agree with Johnasks. My parents usually keeps their big door open to let our cats look out the glass door, and now there is a stray cat that stays in the yard. They are very curious of each other and seemed like they wanted to play, buti stuck the kitten inside and he was hissing at the cats in the house. After a day or so I took the cat in there again and they are doing fine. It may just be how your cats are, some just adjust better than others.

There just isn't a quick fix for this. Tell your husband he needs to have some patience. It may take a few days for your present cat to feel secure in her dominance over the kitten.
Sounds like you have a nice little one there, eating and using her "toilet" appropriately. That's a great head start.
Unless your husband has the patience to deal with the kitten's antics it will be a no-go. Hopefully she will worm her way into his heart and he can't expect miracles by tonight.
You should get another litterbox however. The older cat may not want to share with the kitten. A simple disposable aluminum pan will do for the kitten.

I got a new kitten last year. My old cat, of 3 years, became very territorial. I can't tell you how to do it in a night, but I can assure you, if you give them time, they will work it out themselves. I came home not even a week later to find my old cat, a male, cleaning the kitten. He's more of a "mommy" to her now than anything and she copy's everything he does. It's the cutest thing in the world.

You should separate them tonight. They should not eat or drink out of the same bowl. The new kitten should be tested for Feline Leukemia, since it was a stray. This disease is spread by saliva. Keep the cat in another room till you get it to your vet.

I'm sorry but I don't believe 'they will come together tonight', but given a few days, your one year old kitty will come to be good friends with the youngster. You'll just have to convince your husband that this is a good deed and that the kitten is so adorable, and (well! you know). I'd just leave the baby to play by herself and she'll do such funny little things to make your husband laugh, that he'll be trying to convince you to keep her. Hope it works out because the baby needs you.

Separate them for tonight. Let them get used to each other toorrow. Or baring that, just give them a bit of time. It shouldn't take more than a few hours and young kitty will have learned her place in the pecking order. They will be wary of each other, but shoudl have passed the "urge to kill" stage.
