I'm a senior in highschool this year and as a part of my AP English 12 class we have to do a senior project of mastery. This project can involve pretty much anything, no boundries. My passion in high school has been foreign languages, I'm in German French and Spanish this year, but I love German the most, so I want my project to involve the German language in some way, but I'm fresh out of ideas and the sooner we get started with our projects the better. Anyone out there have any ideas you think might be able to help me?

You could do a review of German pop music in general, the main topic being how it differs from or is similar to North American pop music. Here are some examples of artists:

Kira: http://www.kira-online.de
Juliane Werding: http://www.juliane-werding.de
Annett Louisan: http://www.annett-louisan.de (samples of her music can be heard at http://www.myspace.com/annettlouisan )
Nicole: http://www.nicole-4-u.de
Wolfgang Petry: http://www.wolfgang-petry.de
Herbert Grönemeyer: http://www.letzte-version.de (from what I've heard, his lyrics typically have a lot of wordplay, making them hard to translate)
Luttenberger Klug: http://www.luttenberger-klug.at

If pop isn't your favorite genre, MySpace.com has a separate section for recording artists, classified by country and by literally dozens of genres. That's how I discovered Kira.

You could volunteer at an after school center. Your mentor would be the teacher or person in charge. Teaching language to kids in such a setting would not be teaching, but would help the children become interested in other languages. You could go into how much of English is derived from German, and throw in some culture, food, music, etc. If the kids are in an economically deprived neighborhood, this would be wonderful community service.
