A pair of my chromosomes are connected, I have one daughter with downsyndrome and another daughter who is fine, but I'm pretty sure her chromosomes are connected too. I have an appt with a geneticist, the doctor did blood tests and won't tell me anything about it, just referred me to the geneticist. What do you think? Do you know anything else about this?

I am not sure what you mean by connected chromosomes. I studied in community college in the 70's such problems.

Down's syndrome means there are 3 (three) of the 23rd chromosome. It is common among older women who give birth, though technically it can happen at any age.

There may be a genetic cause that can be inherited, I don't know, but when I studied it, we were told it is usually just something that happens when a woman's eggs get old. The rate of Down's normally follows age. In other words, a 20 year old woman is not likely to have such a baby. By the time a woman is 45, it may be as common as 15%.

I am not an expert, but that is what we were told.

so, I have no idea what you mean by connected chromosomes. None whatsoever.

Perhaps they have made new discoveries, you will soon find out. But, I really don't see an explanation for this unless heaven forbid, there is another problem beyond normal Down's. God bless you!
