Ambiguous question; probably due to the fact that you really do not have a clue, right? My advice is that you access one or all of the following online sites: Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Food & Wine, Robert Parker, etc. With a little GOOGLE and a bit more patience, you should be able to free yourself from link-circles. Hey, if you have the dough to spend on a product you have no first-hand knowledge of, use some of the cash to enroll in a course on wine ... it will be worth every penny!

Depending on what type of food you are having, such as fish, chicken, cheese, you should try Schlink Haus Kabinett. It's a white wine. Very reasonable at about 8 dollars a bottle. It comes in a bold blue bottle.
Italian food, steak, or beef dishes you want to have lambrusco or merlot red wine.

You need to decide for yourself what wines you like the most. People just get interested in wines seem more likely to like sweet wines than dry wines. (Wines that are dry are less sweet). Beginners are more likely to like white wines than red. However, there are certainly exceptions. Experiment and see what you like.
Cheers

It completely depends on your tastes. I'm not even sure if I could pick my 3 favourites. But, since Columbia Crest Grand Estates Merlot and Nipozzano Chianti Ruffino Resevra have just been reduced by $2 each at my local liquor store I really like them right now.

Shiraz is also good...Australian. It's very bold and pungent. Perfect with steak. Cabernet is good with steak too.
I do like merlot too; it's the sweetest of the three.
As far as white, I like Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio (with cheeses, pastas, and fish) or Riesling.
Italian white wines are generally good, too.
