getting a DNA sample is very simple: swabbing the inside of the dog's cheek with a sterile swab from a test kit. send it off with the fee, get a profile back.

costs abt $45 to 50 for lab fee, plus any S and H to mail.

HOWEVER... the test Will Not Do what U are asking of it:

dogs and wolves are indistinguishable thru DNA. can't tell any diff.
the differences betw domestic dogs and wolves are BEHAVIOR - not genes.
* dogs mate with anyone available; wolves mate with a single partner
* only one pair in a pack of wolves breeds
* dogs form short-term pack-bonds; wild wolf-packs are pretty stable extended families
* wolves will feed a pack member who's been hurt or is sick; dogs don't usually
* wolves, M or F, will adopt any orphans, anytime;
* most F dogs will adopt only if they are raising a litter.
* most M dogs don't bother with pups until they're old enuf to play with, and even then, they have low tolerance for puppy pestering
* dogs are easily TRAINED; wolves can only be TAMED
* dogs can generalize their friendliness to humans or other animals
* wolves can only feel friendly to those people/animals they -Know- well

as U can see, this is a partial list; dogs and wolves are close relatives genetically, but MILES apart in behavior!

there is No Test that will tell U if any dog is 'purebred'. however... U can test both PARENTS on the pedigree, with the owner's permission, PLUS Ur own dog [their kid], to confirm parentage.

that's abt $150 plus S and H for 3 tests. pricey, but worth it if U want to confirm parentage beyong any doubt...

Go to AKC and order a free test kit, swab the cheek with enclosed swab, send in with $45. That is it!!

The purpose of the AKC DNA is NOT for confirming parentage!!!!! OBVIOUSLY for that, you would need to send in the parents DNA too, since currently not all dogs are required to have DNA on file.

There is NO DNA test currently for what you are looking for. There is not one to confirm breed. NONE!!!!!!!!

Of course! Just open the jaws of your wee beastie, insert a small toothpick and gently scrape the inside of his or her cheek- Voila! Now you can clone your dog into the man-eating viscious creature that you have always wanted!

Enjoy
