First we clean out their facial orifaces, (mouth, eyes, nose). Then a break is made in the arterial system, usually through the carotid artery, through a small incision on top of the collarbone. As the embalming fluid is being pumped into the artery, the blood is being drained via the jugular vein. Approximately 3 gallons of a formaldehyde solution is injected into the body. We also cavity embalm, which consists of tapping the major organs with a long hollow needle that suctions fluids from the chest and abdominal cavity. We then inject a very strong fluid into the chest cavity to preserve those oragans. Many people think funeral director's remove the organs, that's not true. The embalming process usually takes about 2 hours to complete. Also, the blood just washes down the drain. Hope this helps!
