First I would rule out all medical possibilities related to your symptoms. If everything is unremarkable then I would spend about 2 to 3 hours with you performing a "Psych Social Assessment".

After you have answered the questions or refuse to answer some of the psychiatric questions I would give you a preliminary diagnosis on your second visit. (Based upon my indepth evaluation to your answers and your body language while in my presence).

If you agree with the findings, (lets just say a phobia anxiety or minor depression), we would agree to work together to get at the root cause of your problem. This means one-on-one talks.

My professional opinion medications only mask the root cause of your problem. Now if you are "SMI", then ofcourse I would recommend that you spend 72 hours in a hospital for observation and finding the right combination of drugs to control you from being a danger to yourself and other. (Serious Mental Illness). Usually people who are "SMI", must stay on drugs for life to maintain a quality life.

Not being where you are I can only say that your symptoms sounds like an anxiety attack, or phobia.

If the findings concur that you are having anxiety attacks with panic disorders or a phobia with chronic panic attacks then I would try behaviour modification, bio-feedback, hypnosis. If all fails then for sure you should be on perhaps, Aprozolam (Xanax) 1mg "BID", (means X 2 per day). So that you can live a quality life.

Plus I would want you to attend classes on pharmacology to have an indepth understanding of the nature of the drug, and that it is habit forming and you can not just stop taking it as their is a risk for seizures. And that you should be under a doctors care if you desire to cut back.

Excuse my english grammer & spelling. My primary language is French. I am a clinical psychiatrist.

Wish you the best. Please find a doctor who will rule out medical problems that could be the cause of your symptoms. Try an avoid drugs.

An if there is no medical problem see a good psychologist or a clinical psychiatrist who will listen to you have care about you as a person. (Avoid the ones who only want to hear, "I feel anxious", and they pull out thier RX., pad and write you a drug for anxiety attacks.

i agree with mind doctor....rule out some issues that would have panic attacks as a symptom.

liver, kidney, pancreas, even the thyroid....if one of these is diseased you could harm it further by certain medications.

remember, most mental illnesses are a symptom of something going haywire and usually it is a major organ.

good luck
