My child has been off of levothyroxine for a little over a week and i was told by a Dr. that he could go into a coma without the meds. I really want to know of that or seizers can happen to him. I want to be prepared. The drug is used for hypothyroid

He is off of the meds because his father won't give me the meds for him. And won't give me the med card to take him to a doc. so please don't think i'm a bad parent. I have been doing great with him.

I wouldn't doubt it. I am hypothyroid (I produce 0 on my own) and wouldn't ever take the risk. Granted I am sure I accidentally miss an occasional day or so, but I would avoid any situation that put me at risk of being without for a week.
You should let your husband know that his actions could cause the kid to become retarded or maybe even die. You should call the cops, get a lawyer, or otherwise figure out how to pay it out of pocket till this gets resolved.

Why has he been off his meds? It's your responsibility as a parent to ensure that your child takes his meds, especially when his condition is potentially life-threatening if untreated. Failing to provide adequate care for an ill child is called medical neglect, and can land your child in foster care and you in jail. I strongly recommend you talk to a doctor and get him back on his meds ASAP.
Untreated hypothyroidism causes retardation of growth and mental development, as well as seizures and coma. The effects of being without medication for a week would depend on the severity of the condition (i.e. the extent of thyroid function), but it's a serious condition that should not be left untreated. Your child needs to go back on meds until his doctor tells you otherwise. Missing a day is one thing, but a week is too much.

It doesn't matter that you don't have his birth certificate, SS card, or any other documentation. If you walk into a free clinic, they'll still write him a prescription, and the pharmacy will still fill it. You also don't need to wait on his father to give you a copy of the birth certificate - you can contact the hospital where he was born and request a copy. It doesn't matter how much his father is screwing up, he's your child too, and blaming someone else won't make him healthy.

Why are you taking your child off of levothyroxine? I have taken this medication everyday for over 6 years now and was told by different doctors that I will have take it for the rest of my life. Keep a close eye on your childs reaction. I think you should follow doctors advice.

I seriously doubt it, but it's not a good idea. Call your doctor and let him or her know the situation. He/she will probably tell you to resume the regular dose immediately but not make up the missed doses.
I wouldn't let it happen again though.
