Sometimes it takes that long to sink in. U've been living with the memory but your heart was not accepting......finally your coccoon burst but for a good reason. Now you can store all the find memories in the recesses of your mind and carry on.
Its hard and will take some time and there is no real answer except the fact that now u accept it and soon things will get better

Maybe being 3 years younger it did not effect you the way it should have. Now being 3 years later your emotions are playing a different part in your life. You realize you miss him and how much you cared for him. Just cry and let it all out, you are just experiencing the grief of your loss.

Maybe something that you are doing is jogging your memory. Maybe you are missing him.
Same thing happened to me. My Dad died 2-1/2 years ago, and the other night I watched a movie, "The Family Ring", and when I saw the Dad talking with sweet to the Daughter (she was sitting on the couch and he said good-night). She night daddy. I started balling because I realized I was never going to have tender moments with my Dad again. That made me very sad.

The first stage of grief is denial. Below are the 5 stages you will go through. It is very normal to go through this.
. Denial
· Anger
· Bargaining
· Depression
· Acceptance
It will take time to go through this and I wish you the best

It would be speculation to suggest we know why it took so long, but now that it is happening, let it come out.
I am sorry for you and your families loss.
Do not agonize why, just digest the feelings. If they get too bad, talk to someone in your family about it.
Do you know Jesus as your personal saviour? If so, you can give this burden to Him.

Everybody greives in their own time. Don't think it is weird, just accept that this is your time for greiving and work through it. Try to remember the good things about your step-brother and what made him special to you.

Sometimes when something like that happens, it takes a while for it to hit you. You could of been in denial and you just figured out what really happened.

Everyone doesn't grieve right away. Sometimes, as in your case, it takes years. That's normal for some people, and obviously for you. You aren't weird, just normal. Hope things get better for you, and sorry for your loss.
