I used to have one. There is not way to hide it. At first your tongue will swell even with holding ice in your mouth immediately, so your speech will be impaired for at least a week. It will take a good month to really start to heal, but even after that you can not go all day without the jewelry in. I had mine for at least a couple of years and when I finally took it out the hole was healed closed too much to reinsert the jewelry in about a week. It isn't like an earring that you can take out for a long time after healing and then put back in easily later, that area will heal completely once the barbell is removed. What I did when I had mine was to wear a barbell with pink balls that did not stand out as much as silver, most people I worked with could not see it then unless they were standing and I was sitting and they had more of an angled view of my mouth when we were talking.

If you get it done and don't want them to know, you'll never be able to open your mouth in their presence again. Sounds pretty tough doesn't it?Either tell them or don't get it done.
