Harriet Miers was not put down by George W. Bush. He nominated her to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court. She withdrew her nomination after most of the conservative Republicans opposed her since she had never served as a judge and they were afraid that she would turn out to be a liberal. Since she never served as a judge, there was no record of her viewpoints on any issues. Who knows? Maybe she really is a liberal, but then again, she could be very conservative. We will never know.

Alito may be a closet liberal as well. John Roberts is a far out to the right as Dick Cheney is.
