I am Bipolar and the worst thing to do when you are on a manic high is to drink because if you are Bipolar you already know that the bottom will fall out sooner or later and you will be on a low. Please do yourself a favor and try not to drink on a mania, go throw something like darts or something.

Many people "try". It's called "self-medicating", and it never works, but always leads to larger problems...like a bipolar who is now also an alcoholic! Head in the right direction...go to a psychiatrist and take your meds and don't stop just because you start to "feel better". Another very common thing people do! Good luck!

Many people do that but it is not safe. You need to work with a psych doc to be placed on medication for bipolar. Alcohol only covers the problem.

Drinking will not affect bipolar mania. I don't know how many people do it, but it's not helping.

I have never been much of a drinker so I never experienced that. I know many people with mental illnesses due but I also know if you are on medication and drink it is abad combination so I would not recommend it.

Drinking might make psychosis go away for a while, but it changes you brain chemistry in such a way that makes it worse and more frequent in the long run. I've also heard that this effect is increased with women.

For me, drinking makes things worse.

lots, and it doesn't "stop" anything..nothing stops it..and alcohol just makes more problems..self medicating always causes more problems than it helps....some medications can help calm the worst of the symptoms and make fuctioning much easier..please try that instead of making things worse...good luck
