Have a skill they could use (foreign language, computer science, law enforcement, military). Have a degree. A clean record (credit and civil). It could take a few days because they have to have a slot for you before they can hire you. Be patient and keep working on bettering your resume.

to get into the FBI and actually get hired, you will need a BS degree and maybe even a Masters.

They are looking for accounting degrees, esp CPA and those in computer science degree. They also hire alot of people who are graduates from law school.

So if you have a law degree or if you are a CPA that is a big help. The chance of actually being hired with the bare mimimun degrees is very slim. For the FBI there will be my guess about 1000 people applying for any one opening.

Be persistent.

Basically do all the things you'd do to advance your own career (if you're in a corporate setting, work to get promoted to management, or volunteer to transfer to offices in other parts of the country to broaded your experience). If you're in another type of setting, try to learn as many jobs as possible (they value ambition, flexibility and ability to handle multiple functions).

Above all, keep up with your education. If time permits, pursue an advanced degree (even if it's something unrelated to your job...something like history, psychology or mathematics). Become fluent in a foreign language.

The process can take years, so don't get discouraged. Yes, keep calling, but don't be a pest.

Go to their website, create an account, post your resume, browse the jobs and apply. You have the credentials and the education. Their site is http://www.fbi.gov. There are many different jobs that the FBI has to offer. You will undergo an extensive background check including credit check, criminal background check, if you have ever used any illegal drugs you are automatically disqualified, if you have a criminal record you are automatically disqualified, you must submit to a drug urinalysis test and polygraph test as well. Good luck!

Also, a friend had a juvenile record that eliminated him from FBI consideration - and the offense was very minor. Keep your nose very clean.

patience... it took a buddy of mine several months before they got back to him. Just imagine the applications they have to weed thru.
