Quoted from the Dalai Lamas book "The Art Of Happiness" - We have to learn how negative emotions and behaviors are harmful to us......And we must realize how these negative emotions are not only very bad and harmful to one personally but harmful to society and the future of the whole world as well.
So my real question is - where is the compassion that really all religions have one strive for? It is missing in many questions and answers.

I am sorry - this question would include all -certainly Athiests can be just as compassionate as anyone.

Jesus was from what I know an extreemly compassionate person, and he entered the picture much later than many other religions - and he would never judge another human or condem him - he was above that.

Many people are locked into their own belief systems, and view anything that contradicts them as a challenge or threat. It's sad.

I try to approach ignorant questions from the position of an educator. There is no negativity in my responses (although the questions are often rife with them). I come here to engage in a debate, not name call. And no matter what anyone would say, I think talking about the elephant in the room (religion) is more healthy than pretending it's not there.

good question. . . and coragryph is always so articulate. sometimes passion or zeal is so strong that it overrides rationale or more compassionate approaches. sometimes it is that a person is so sure of their beliefs that they cannot understand why another person might not immediately believe as well.
and you have got the whole of it because the more aggressive and forceful people are, the more defensive and rude the retaliations are and so on and the more confused i get because isn't the foundation supposed to be love?

If religion wasn't so terribly politicized, it probably wouldn't be a big deal. I don't really care what someone chooses to believe until they start practicing their religion on me.
If religion is personal, keep it that way.

You know, Jesus Himself said that belief in Him would divide even families. There is only one way to salvation, by faith in Jesus. Naturally if people rebel against that, there will be division.

I try to answer with compassion and such. I hate it when people go "Oh ALL Christians do such-and-such." That is one of the rare times I snap. I do this because it really pisses me off...probably people snap for the same reason.

I generally agree. You will find that compassion is not missing in my answers on the topic.
