Both are cute looks. That's why I like having hair that's not curly - it's so versatile. :)

I like it curled back, it opens up the face. Unless someone has a little teeny chicken face, curling towards it might help.

The shape of a persons face is the greatest determining factor here....but I really like the "tousled" look...the no-fuss, kinda messy (but NOT) natural wavy disheveled look. Am I even explaining this right?!!! Good Lord! I can't EVEN talk today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
