My dad died December 27, 2000 at the age of 60 years from lung cancer. He was diagnosed on September 28, 2000 the day of my son's first birthday and the day he died was my sisters 37th birthday. I was 30 years old and thought I still had years with him to mend all the fences from a rocky relationship we had had in the past. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him and when my kids do something special it makes me think of how proud there papa would be if he could see them but then I know that he does see them he is their guardian angel. If your parents are still alive go hug them tell them you love them and NEVER take them for granted because we never know how long they will be with us or anyone we love for that matter.

My dad died July 2005 at the age of 54. He died from pneumonia. He had gone to the hospital 3 days before he died because he wasn't feeling well, and they sent him home with some prescriptions for antibiotics. He died the day after the 4th of July. I was 22 years old. My mom came home from work and found him sitting in the chair at the dining room table with his head laying back, a cigarette broken in half, and a glass of water knocked over. I never got to say goodbye or I love you to him, so MAKE SURE YOU TELL YOUR PARENTS OR LOVED ONES THIS ALL THE TIME!

My biological mother died when I was 8 years old, of Lymphoma. I was raised by her best friends who became my "parents." However, I have always felt the void. Until recent years, I perceived my mom in a fantasy light; but I know now that I was raised in a better environment than she provided. It takes a long time to accept the loss of a parent. No one looks at you with as cherishing a look as your parents'.
