Moving into an older mobile home.everything has been remodeled except for the bedrooms.. I have an extremely small 12' by 10' room with dark paneling and light tan carpet. One little window so there isn"t much light from outside. The three main pieces going in this room are two matching antique dressers (tall, medium brown oak color)..and a single bed. Anybody out there good at ideas for brightening the room..I can not paint or paper the walls since I am renting not buying..Would appreciate any helpful hints.

I understand that you can't paint the walls. But you can paper them because wallpaper is really easy to take off now. If you still don't want to paper them, paper them anyway, using a stapler. And you can always put a curtain rod across the top of a wall, going all the way across, and hang a really nice pale curtain or drapery. As for the lighting, put up-lights in the corners. It's simple: put lights in the corners of the room but aim them towards the ceiling. And don't forget to hide them behind a plant or a piece of furniture. It's often difficult to decorate rentals. I would advise that you need to do something about the dark panelling.

How about hanging lengths of muslin curtain on rods all around the room for a bright and airy feeling. You can take them with you when you move and it will greatly improve the light.

Or if it's an option ask the landlord if he'd mind you painting the panelling.

Hang some fabric in lighter colors, draping them down around the windows or around the bed. Cordinate with your bedding...add pillows.

Given that it's a rental, your best option is a good window treatment.
