No, this sounds like an HMO thought it up so that women would be less inclined to ask for one and the HMO wouldn't have to pay for it.

Yeah it is true that you blow up when you have an epidural. I did, you just go puffy for a few days. It is well worth it though, epidurals are like heaven!
It is not a permenant thing though, it doesnt add to your weight or anything you just swell up. I noticed that my face went puffy and my fingers did too id say that everywhere else couldve but i didnt notice at the time. It depends on genetics and how much work you put in to get back to your normal weight after pregnancy. My baby boy is 1 next week and I am still about 7kgs heavier than i was when i concieved. It just takes time an effort. It sucks though. If you have a history of putting on weight or if it is easy for you to put weight on, then it is likely that it will stay on for longer.
Im usually a size 10 (australian) which is size 8 in the US so im usually just average but it has seemed to stay on me. My problem is that i dont dedicate my time to exersise like i should.

No epidurals dont make you gain weight! They are wonderful pain relief during labor and i highly recommend them! you sister may have had a reaction to the drugs in the epidural. Often women who give birth naturally also breast feed and breast feeding helps you lose weight quickly> I gained 30lbs with my daughter. I had lost 18 of it after she was born and the remainder of the weight i lost in about 3 weeks because of breastfeeding. Giving birth naturally is a very impowering thing for a woman. i imagine that the do feel great and that reflects on their appearance. Sorry i dont like pain and will have an epidural with all my children but if you wish to do it go for it and congrats!

Your sister may have just had a reaction to it, and not all women that have an epidural keep the weight on or gain more weight. My mom had a natural all 4 times, and she never lost the weight. I had an eipdural and lost 12 pounds in less than a month.

I have never heard of this before I have had 2 and it did not happen to me. when I had my daughter I had one and lost the weight fast and even went down better then I was before when I had my son I had one as well It did take me longer to loose the weight that time but then I got pregnant fast again after that. I think with some people it depends on the sex of the baby I have found in my life time 44 years that some who have girls will lose the weight faster and some who have boys will lose the weight slower or vise versa. It depends on the person really.

An epidural does NOT make you gain weight. You're going to be puffy for a while from all of the fluids they pump in you but that's gone within a few days. The women that look great after pregnancy either have awesome genes or watch their weight during pregnancy or both.

I dont believe that you get fat from an epidural. I have two girls and am pregnant with a boy and plan to have another epidural. My starting weight 6 years ago was 125. and before I got pregnant this time I was 130. I am 20 weeks pregnant, and I weigh 145. I am 5'8". So I think That I am ok weight. Not Fat.

I don't believe so. An epidural can cause many problems but I don't think weight gaining is one of them. If your worried about losing weight after the baby is born then breastfeed. It really helps you to lose the weight.

Are you sure that that is the only difference? I had an epidural and lost my pregnancy weight with out a problem. It has more to do with your genes and not the pain control you get while in labor.
