Hi...been on a 20 carbs or less for 7 months now...have about one day a month where I go unlimited carbs...do a one hour swim aerobics class daily, then swim 1 mile doing various strokes, then MWF do either 30 minutes bicycling (equivalent 12 miles) or 30 minutes elliptical...TTHR 30 minutes of strength training. Problem is, I have reached a plateau...have lost 63 pounds and have been stuck at this weight for a little over a month...have at least 30 more pounds to go...any ideas? Oh...the swim aerobics are different every day, so switching up of the routine is happening...

after reading the second answer...the way I understood low carb is that it lowers the insulin level making your body go into a ketogenic state...thus making your body lose weight (ROUGH summary folks)...yes, calories do make a difference, moderation in all things and all that, but I know I'm staying under my maximum calorie intake, and sometimes barely making it above the minimum...but definitely making it...'cause I know that if you don't eat ENOUGH calories, that can also slow you down...

I know it goes against everything you've learned about the evils of carbs... but I'd switch to a low fat / low calorie diet for a few weeks. Then resume your lo-carb life style. This should jump start your metabolism and put you back into ketosis. Do not just go back to eating anything you want. A low fat diet may not sound very appetizing but it will at least keep you from gaining weight while you jump start your fat fueled metabolism. Once you restart your low carb diet you should see weight loss on the same order as when you first started the low carb regime. Losing 63 lbs is awesome..... you should be very proud of yourself.... I'm sure you look and feel sooo much better. I'm sure you can get to the goal weight you've set for yourself. Just keep on trying and stick with it.

Hi, I'm a big fan of a low carb diet. I went from a size 16 to a size 6 two years ago and have kept it off. My suggestion is to lower your fat intake also. Be very careful of the amount of cheese, and the type of meat you choose. Stick with skinless chicken and fish. Avoid sauces just use lemon and herbs. You'll get off the plateau if you are careful and don't cheat. I firmly believe any diet is ten per cent application and ninty per cent psychological. Now that you have lost so much it is harder to stay motivated. Psych yourself up and you can do it.

I lost about 45 pounds, when I would reach a plateau, I would put a shock to my diet, switch it up for a few days, and and if you have kick boxing classes I would highly recommend it. I do a lot of different types of classes, step, yoga, and kick boxing it is the best overall and would give you the "shock" your body may be needing. I also would do carbs, but only natural carbs (fruits, veggies, ect...) Maybe that could help. Hope it works!!!

Remember that low carb works because it helps you eat fewer calories. Even tho you don;t count them in a low carb diet they are still the key. Have you maybe accidentally increased how much you eat even tho you're under the 20 carb limit?

If you are also doing low fat you are heading for failure as well. You must give your body the alternative fuel of fat. Also, fat satfisfies you faster and longer so you would eat less. Good luck.
