no, it isn't dyed, it's natural...chestnut with pure silver growing at the temples.

Okay, I am going to put this to vote, because firstly 300 answers is too hard to select from (but i did read and vote on each and every one), and secondly, this question was asked for your advice so i am going to leave the voting up to the Yahooers! Thank you all for your answers, I really learned something from this. Have a wonderful day.

It sounds beautiful. No, I don't think it's too old, I'm 38 and I have waist length, natural blonde hair. I plan to keep it for the rest of my life.

I would have said no, it's okay a few years ago, I'm 44 and had waist length hair till I was 41. I use to tell my sister, I was never going to cut it short and would let it gray naturally. She use to say "no way". Anyway, when I was 41, I cut it really short, a layered cut. I just put some curling gel in it every day and scrunch it dry. It looks so much better than it did long. I think the older we get, the shorter we should wear our hair. In my opinion, it makes most women look younger. Just my opinion. Three years ago, I would not have given cutting it a second thought. Now I can't stand to let it grow past a certain point. Some day, I may go back to shoulder length or right below the shoulder, but not any longer.

Well, at this point you have 243 answers
to your question, so I doubt that you
will even READ this one.

It seems as though every answer
I read says go, baby go! But I have
heard all my life that women of
a certain age should not have
long hair, because it is not
becoming.

I have always had short short
hair till I got old, and then,
I don't know why - but I let
my hair grow out!! Of course
I have bleached/dyed my hair
all my life, so I keep doing
that, but I LOVE my long hair,
and I always wear it up in a
curly pony tail or a French twist.

I remember my great grandmother
had never cut her silver hair,
and my grandmother had long
gray hair which she kept in a bun.

The only time I saw older women
that had long hair that didn't look
good, they wore it down and
long and gray and frizzy and
it just seemed like they were trying
to look like beauty queens, or
something that was not good.

Well the length of your hair should be determined by what looks best framing your face.

The standard rules would say that straight hair (meaning no layering, bangs, etc. that are long are too young for anyone over 35. However I say screw the rules, go with what looks best.

That said, few women, even really young ones, look their very best with straight long hair. In most cases, some face framing body is going to be more flattering.

It's also hard to keep really long hair in great condition - full of shine and color. Since you're graying, I'm guessing it isn't really shiny and pretty like a younger woman.

Cher and Demi Moore still wear it that way, and it looks okay, but they also spend a ton of money on color and products to keep it that way (I suspect Cher is wearing wigs in public because older hair changes texture and thins..her own hair might be scary). I don't think either woman looks that great with it though.

So...you're asking the question, clearly you're not so convinced this is still the best look for you. Maybe it's time to consider a change so you can look your best at any age.

Hair style does not depend on age. It depends on the person under the hair.

Keep in mind why you style the hair the way you do.
If you're trying to attract a guy - or are you trying to be comfortable - or just trying to find out if you should change styles?

(I wouldn't suggest trying to find a style to help attract a guy) even though some guys, such as myself, like long hair like this on a woman others don't. You can't win this one - just do your best to keep it looking nice.

Long hair does weigh a lot, if you want to be more comfortable then cut it shorter.

It's difficult to say if I would think you need to change the style because you're avatar is a cartoon. Without seeing you - I can't help.

If you're thinking of changing styles - get a picture of yourself and compare it to photos in a hairstyle magazine with some friends - you'll have a lot of fun (even if you keep the great style you have now)

To directly answer the question, your age has nothing to do with your style - if you like, keep it :) I see no reason why you should get it cut.

I say wear what looks good on you and makes you feel pretty. Personally im slightly over 40 and that length would look horrid on me. You sound unsure, So there are salons that can take a picture of you now and computer generate different hair lengths and styles from that you can see a new you in various styles and lengths without the committment, besides it will be fun. I did it and that is why i know the length wouldnt work for my face shape. Enjoy it no matter what way you decide. Good Luck!

That depends. Does it still look good (healthy, thick, not thinning and brittle)? The temples with silver and the rest chestnut is not a good combo. Time to start coloring it and if it is that long it will become a pain.

My hair was really long up until just a year ago. It started to be come thiner and I finally needed to start coloring it too. My new shorter look is attractive, easy to care for and right for my time in life (I am a couple of years older than you).

I would suggest coloring with natural color (there are several companies out there that have products that are easy on the hair and scalp), I use Herbatint. You'll need to experiment a little so be patient.

No it isn't. Long hair is beautiful at any age, especially so when a woman doesn't try to cover up the gray hairs as they appear. It can make her seem elegant and refined, yet still exude a natural radiance that you can't get from a bottle. The gray is a sign of maturity, in mind, body, and spirit if you will, and to let it show just as freely as the rest of your long hair would project the image that you have confidence in your feminine beauty, and are not afraid to show that it knows not the bounds of time. I too have waist length hair, and I know I don't plan to cut it all off anytime soon, come age and/or gray hairs.

In this day and age, where pixie cuts aren't all that uncommon and some girls cheat with hair extensions, having naturally long hair will set you apart from the rest, because long hair isn't something that you can produce overnight (not naturally at least.) It can imply that you have patience and resolve, and think wisely before you act and avoid making rash decisions like chopping your waist length hair off some weekend because your friends thought you'd look good with a pixie cut. It can be used as a marker for maturity, even though it can be seen as a bit 'hippie' when ladies move farther away from their teen years.

There are many ways to wear long hair while still letting it hang mostly free, and some of these styles will counteract the hippie references you may get, but who says your hair has to be the only thing that defines your style? Your hair is part of you, but it isn't all of you. Let people say 'hippie' every now and then, but let your way of life and personality direct them to the truth of who you are and what your signature style is.

Long hair always holds the potential for great beauty, and it is a far too rare site to see a mature woman wearing her hair long and free, and not doing a thing to cover up the gray hairs. If you like your hair long, then wear it long, and wear it proud.

If you have young looking facial features, it should look fine. The only negative thing about longer hair is that it can "pull down" your facial features, which can make you look older than you are. I have a friend who is in her early fifties, and she had longer hair for a long time, not quite to her waist and she decided to get it cut just recently. She looks about fifteen years younger, and she is so glad that she decided to cut it. She also jokes around about saving lots of time in the washing and drying process, and also saving money on hair products. If you are happy with it the length it is, leave it alone, but you can go to some hair salons which will do one of those virtual hair style makeovers, and you can see what you would look like with a different style. Have a good night!

NO!!! The days are way long gone when a woman had to put her hair "UP" when she hit thirty, okay?! And no, you don't have to have it permed or colored blue, either. Mine is mid-back, I wear it down & don't plan to change it. It's naturally curly so putting it up all the time would be a pain & I haven't had short hair since 1986 so I don't know what I would look like with short hair. As long as you keep it clean, take care of it, see to it that it's healthy & in great shape, no reason why you can't wear it any way you wish for as long as you wish. Do not let someone else try to tell you what you must conform to - that's just wrong. Keep it long & wear it that way because you want to!!!

You should wear it how you want. Don't listen to those who think it is gross and/or hippy-ish. Most likely they are just jealous because they cannot grow long hair themselves. I've experienced the rude comments myself, some people have no tact.

I think long hair looks great on anyone at any age as long as it looks healthy and isn't out of control. Regular trims will help maintain a healthy look to your hair. But please beware of stylists!!! It is hard to find a good stylist who will actually just give you a trim when you have long hair. Some think 1 inch = 4 or 5.

I've had long hair my whole life ( a few inches past my waist ) and I get nothing but compliments on it. I think it is nice to see older women with long hair because you just don't see it anymore. Everyone seems to hack off their hair once they get married or have a baby because they don't have time for themselves. I think THAT is odd. Who wants the same ol' mom hair cut? Not me! You can do so much more with long hair too.

There are many resources on the internet about growing long hair too and I've listed a couple of them below :)
